The pilot program could take 12-24 months, Ms Berejiklian said, and will take in experts from across the field and focus on RNA therapeutics.

RNA therapeutics are a class of medications based on ribonucleic acid (RNA). One of the main types is messenger RNA (mRNA) which has been used to fight coronavirus.

Dr Kerry Chant described it as an "important announcement".

"We have incredible experts and researchers" she said.

"It's about using some of the best brains we have in NSW", the premier added.
