Essendon has copped a fresh injury blow, with young recruit Jye Caldwell re-injuring his hamstring.
Caldwell suffered a serious hamstring tear in the Bombers’ Round 2 loss to Port Adelaide that Essendon medicos diagnosed as a 6-8 week injury.
But the former Giant, who was traded to the Bombers late in last year’s exchange period, is now facing an even longer stint on the sidelines after a training mishap.
Caldwell was regarded as one of the best midfielders of the 2018 national draft, but slipped to pick 11 after multiple hamstring setbacks and he has a history with the injury.
He sought a fresh start at Essendon after playing 11 games in two years at GWS and was signed to a four-year deal.
Caldwell gathered 22 disposals and nine tackles in a promising Round 1 performance against Hawthorn before hurting himself the following week against the Power.
The AFL’s official injury list has Sam Draper another 3-5 weeks away and Dylan Shiel still two months off a return.
