Resident Evil Village is one of the best games of the year so far and is also the fastest-selling in the series. Its story is fantastic with Ethan Winters wowing as the best ever dad protagonist, but there’s a photo mode discovery in the post-credits scene that has confused fans. Here you’ll find an explanation of the Resident Evil Village post-credits scene and what its photo mode discovery could mean for Ethan Winters and Rose.

Some reviews have praised the game as a ‘nerve-shredding descent into horror,’ but the disappointing aspect is that it’s actually nowhere near as scary as Biohazard apart from when exploring Benviento’s house. However, despite not being scary, the game is still a fantastic action-horror game thanks to its characters and how its story explains the previously illogical in Biohazard.

Know that there will be major spoilers beyond this point as we explain the Resident Evil Village post-credits scene and photo mode discovery.

Resident Evil Village post-credits scene explained

The post-credits scene for Resident Evil Village focuses on Ethan’s now teenage daughter, Rose.

Ethan died at the end of Resident Evil Village to help save Mia, Rose, and Chris Refield by association, and Rose visits his grave in the game’s post-credits scene.

She’s wearing the jacket he wrapped around her as a baby before sacrificing himself, but her visit to his grave is interrupted by a suited gentleman.

The suited man seemingly works with Chris, and he smugly calls Rose by the name of Evaline before she threatens him with powers that she says even Chris doesn’t know about.

Capcom’s scene ultimately ends with Rose stepping into the car and it driving off into the distance while a mysterious finger seemingly approaches.

It then ends with a message saying that the father’s story is finished. This could imply that the next game will have us step into the shoes of Rose.

Resident Evil Village post-credits scene photo mode discovery

A photo mode mod has made a huge discovery concerning the Resident Evil Village post-credits scene.

This photo mode discovery for Resident Evil Village shows that the mysterious figure approaching the car in the post-credits scene is actually Ethan Winters.

Fans have speculated that this means Ethan isn’t dead, which isn’t beyond the realms of possibility as it’s a video game and Ethan was never shown dying in the explosion.

However, as of right now, his return from the land of the dead for a third time wouldn’t make much sense. Jack Baker killed him in Biohazard and used the mold to bring him to back to life and turn him, and Mother Miranda thought she killed him in Village by ripping out his heart, but she didn’t know he was made of the cursed mold.

The mold was said to have originated from the European Village that Resident Evil 8 takes place in, so how can the mold and anyone made of it survive after the explosion?

Some have speculated that Rose is seeing an hallucination of Ethan like how he saw Evaline, but this doesn’t make much sense either with how the scene is presented.

It’s possible that Capcom just used Ethan’s model to have any shadowy human approach the car, but his apperance is still fascinating nonetheless.

Personally speaking, the ending has made me less optimistic about a sequel to Village as the prospect of playing as a powerful Rose isn’t exciting, nor would I want to step into the shoes of Chris Redfield again.

Whether there will be a sequel to Village remains to be seen, but a leaker suggested that Resident Evil 7, 8, and 9 would be a trilogy.
