AFLW star Tayla Harris is officially on the hunt for a new club after contract talks with Carlton broke down.
- Carlton's pay negotiation talks with key forward Tayla Harris have been going on for weeks
- Coach Daniel Harford said it's "in the interest of both parties" that Harris seeks her value elsewhere
- Harris was part of Brisbane's inaugural AFLW squad then joined the Blues in 2017
Harris's future has been the subject of much speculation, with the key forward believed to be pursuing a deal worth about $150,000 for next year.
The Blues have confirmed they will not meet the asking price of the 24-year-old, who is among the highest profile players in the league.
"It's been a bit of a difficult negotiation," Carlton coach Daniel Harford told radio station RSN.
"For us and for Tay, because you've got to put it all together and make sure you've got your reward for all your players, who deserve it through the journey.
"Tay's had certainly some reward for her efforts through her campaign so far. But, as played out in the story last week, I think the gap was too big.
"We haven't been able to find common ground for the contract for Tay at the moment. So it's in the interest of both parties to just see what you can get outside."
Harris was part of Brisbane's inaugural AFLW squad then joined the Blues in 2017.
A talented boxer, she was the subject of online abuse in 2019 after an iconic photo of her kicking was the subject of vile trolling.
Harris booted four goals from eight games this year, failing to reach the highs of previous campaigns.
"What she can do, very few — if any — other players can do," Harford said.
"The challenge for Tayla was to be able to do that consistently.
"From a list management perspective … you've got to put all that together and put a monetary value on that. And make sure that's consistent with your philosophies."
