The number of coronavirus exposure sites linked to a pair of cases that visited Phillip Island, south-east of Melbourne, has grown to 30.

The Churchill Island nature park, north of Phillip Island, and a Caltex service station at Cowes are the latest exposure sites linked to the visit.

It comes as Bass Coast Health has expanded testing after some people were forced to wait up to eight hours at the weekend for testing.

More than 1,500 people were tested yesterday across the Phillip Island and Bass Coast region.

Bass Coast Health chief executive Jan Child said nurses from neighbouring health service worked over the weekend to deal with the increased demand for testing.

"We just want people to come and get tested and then stay home."

She said demand for testing was much lower.

This morning, the health service was reporting a 45-minute wait for testing at a drive-through centre at the Cowes transfer station and a 20-minute wait at the Wonthaggi Hospital drive-through.

Exposure sites hit health service

About 90 Bass Coast Health workers have been forced to isolate after attending exposure sites linked to the visit.

The two cases last week visited retail, hospitality, and tourism businesses, as well as the island's Woolworths, Coles, and Aldi supermarkets.

The majority of the sites are tier 1, meaning visitors must get tested and isolate for 14 days regardless of the result.

But Ms Child said the community and local businesses had to comply with the coronavirus restrictions and get tested.

"This Delta variant is so swift and so strong that it just catches.

"But I think the community in Bass Coast have been pretty remarkable at complying with all of the things they need to do."
