Several of Australia's largest supermarket chains have issued a joint statement urging people in New South Wales to adhere to COVID-19 safety measures implemented by the NSW government.
Key points:
- Aldi, Coles, Foodworks, IGA and Woolworths issued a group statement
- Shoppers are being urged to treat staff with respect
- The supermarkets issued a similar message in Victoria previously
The statement was issued jointly by supermarket giants Coles, Woolworths and Aldi alongside IGA and Foodworks and was shared to social media, encouraging NSW residents to follow COVID-19 guidelines including checking in via the QR codes and wearing face masks in the stores.
The statement was shared with the logos of the five brands underneath the reminder, which urged shoppers to treat supermarket staff with courtesy and respect.
It reads: "Thousands of your fellow Australians work tirelessly in our stores every day and we ask that you are kind and treat these dedicated people with the courtesy and respect they deserve.
Check in, wear masks
Shoppers were reminded to check in using the QR codes and wear face masks.
"To help keep those in NSW safe, the NSW government has advised that it remains mandatory for everyone to check in to our stores when shopping. You can check in with the Service NSW App on your phone by scanning the QR codes you'll find in multiple locations in store.
NSW Health has made it mandatory for visitors to stores to check in, and face masks are required in all public spaces.
