Police in Melbourne have issued an appeal after two children were allegedly taken from a home.

It’s believed a man entered a Blackburn North home on Springfield Road on Monday morning while a woman and her two children were inside, police said.

It’s alleged he then stole the family’s black 2014 Mercedes Benz C200 sedan with registration BEQ 882.

CCTV showed he left the property just after 8.45am.

Police were called to the home about 10 minutes later and found the woman.

But the two children - a girl aged five and a three-year-old boy - were missing.

Both children are of Asian appearance.

The man is described as having dark skin and was wearing a black hooded jumper and a face mask at the time of the incident.

A male resident, who is not believed to have been home at the time of the incident, is now with police.

Police have released two images of the car missing from the home.

“Police are currently patrolling the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle and the children,” Victoria police said.

Anyone who has information or vision from the area at the time is urged to come forward.
