As we wait for Australian sprinter Isis Holt to race in her goal medal 100m - I figured now would be the perfect time to explain the classifications for Para athletes.
In each event, you’ll see a letter followed by a two-digit number. The letter is whether it’s a track (T) or field (F) event.
The first number of the digit is what impairment the athlete has, while the second number tells you the level of that impairment.
With the second digit, the lower the number is the greater the degree of impairment (the same as swimming). ’
Holt, who was born with cerebral palsy, is a T35 runner.
Athletics classifications
T11-13: Athletes with visual impairment
T20: Athletes have an intellectual impairment
T/F 31-38: Athletes with cerebral palsy
