Good news - after some earlier concerns about his condition, Michael Roeger has spoken on Seven and revealed he came into the Paralympics carrying injury.
“It’s probably the toughest [marathon] I’ve ever done but I did it for Australia, for my family, for Langhorn Creek, and I still believed on the start line I could do it,” he said.
“I wanted to win today and I believed I could ... unfortunately the injury came at the wrong time five weeks ago. I’m not using that has an excuse ... [but] I could probably count the number of runs on one hand that I did in the last five weeks, and in the end it just caught me out.
“I thought this was going to be my time, and unfortunately I fell short. I knew at the end of the day it’s not about the medals, it’s about the journey. If I can inspire some kids, inspire the next generation of Paralympians, see my team-mates do well like Jaryd Clifford, then I’ve done my job.
“I ran with no regrets. I put everything into it.”
