Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy Entertainment, has confirmed that Alan Wake Remastered is nearly complete and will launch on PC and consoles before the end of 2021.
Lake decided it would be more fitting to make the announcement via the Alan Wake/Remedy fansite The Sudden Stop because, "The Remedy community wouldn't be what it is today" without the site. In the post, he confirmed that the remaster will include updated visuals, which can be interpreted as meaning we'll be playing the game in 4K with the right hardware. It's also expected that the original game and its two expansions (The Signal and The Writer) will be included.
The remastered version isn't just good news for fans of the original, it will also count as the first time Alan Wake can be played on Sony's gaming platforms. 11 years ago the game could only be played on PC and Xbox 360, but that changes this year. Publishing is being handled by Epic Games and will therefore appear on the Epic Games Store for PC. Versions will also be made available for the PS5, PS4/Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X.
Back in 2017, Alan Wake had to be pulled from sale due to music licensing deals expiring. Then in 2019, the publishing rights for the game reverted from Microsoft to Remedy, but at the time Remedy was completely focused on developing Control. As VGC reports, the publishing deal with Epic was signed in March 2020 for two unannounced titles, one of which we now know is Alan Wake Remastered.
