This underground apartment in Vancouver, Canada, is up for rent for the bargain basement price of A$1080 a month (C$1000).

There's a catch though. Because of the low ceiling, the prospective tenant must be shorter than 5'4" (162cm).

Being short-statured especially comes in handy when you open the bathroom door and need to walk up to steps in order to use the toilet.

You also aren't allowed to smoke, drink or use drugs in the apartment.

The $1000 a month price tag does include heat, hot water and high speed internet.

The one room and a den does include a vintage-looking oven, a fridge and a snow shovel.

Tenants are allowed to keep a pet however.

When the landlord posted the ad for the apartment on Craigslist earlier this month, they specified the tenant must be responsible, helpful and mature.

The ad has since been taken down, suggesting somebody has already snapped it up in Vancouver's piping hot real estate market.

Vancouver is one of the world's most expensive cities to live in, putting it up there with Hong Kong, San Francisco, Dubai and Sydney.

These cabinets are probably the nicest thing in the apartment.
