There have been no new local or overseas cases of COVID-19 detected in Queensland overnight as protesters have also gathered in Brisbane.
Education Minister Grace Grace delivered the news at Logan’s Mabel Park State High School, south of Brisbane, along with announcing this weekend’s Super Schools Vaccination Blitz.
Broncos stars Tyson Gamble, Payne Haas and Jordan Riki joined the minister to help spruik the jab rollout.
“Meeting your sporting heroes is just another incentive to get vaccinated at the Super Schools Weekend, so come down and get an autograph as well as your vaccination,” Ms Grace said.
“We hope that any Queenslanders aged 12 and over who have not yet been vaccinated will come forward and get the jab this weekend.”
Brisbane Broncos player Tyson Gamble said he was happy to play a part in encouraging Queenslanders to turn up and get vaccinated at their local schools.
“There’s no point putting it off,” Tyson said. “Everyone wants to get back to living a normal life and being able to do things like travel and play footy.”
At schools across the state, athletes from the Brisbane Broncos, Queensland Reds, Gold Coast SUNS and Gold Coast Titans, Brisbane Roar FC, Queensland Firebirds, JCU Townsville Fire and Swimming Australia have got behind the Super Schools Vaccination blitz.
A large protest against vaccines and mandates has also been under way in Brisbane on Saturday, as well as a counter-rally criticising the anti-vax movement.
