He has not played a game for the club but Adam Reynolds has been trusted to lead the Brisbane Broncos in 2022.
- Adam Reynolds is the 13th player to be named the permanent captain of either the Brisbane Broncos NRL or NRLW team
- Reynolds signed a three-year deal with Brisbane after 10 years at South Sydney
- At Souths, Reynolds won the 2014 NRL premiership and became the club's all-time leading point scorer
The South Sydney Rabbitohs all-time leading point scorer signed a three-year deal with Brisbane after being told by his former club his services were no longer required after 10 seasons.
The 31-year-old guided Souths to the NRL grand final last year, narrowly going down to the Penrith Panthers.
Now in the Broncos, maroon coach Kevin Walters has put his faith in the goal-kicking halfback, hoping the NSW-Origin player and premiership winner can return Brisbane to the finals for the first time since 2019.
"It's an incredible honour to be asked to lead this great club," Reynolds said in a statement.
"It's a huge responsibility and I believe I can play a role in helping this group of players to grow together and deliver something special back to everyone who supports our club.
Reynolds is the 13th permanent captain of the Broncos, including NRLW skipper Ali Brigginshaw.
He has amassed 1,896 points in 10 years of first-grade, scoring 260 of them last season.
"Coming up here to Brisbane, it's a challenge, and being named captain adds to that challenge – and I'm looking forward to it," he said.
"I've heard a lot about the pressures and the outside influences but as long as your focus is within the team then that's all that really matters."
Walters, going into his second season as coach, said he expects the halfback to be able to handle the responsibility thrown upon him at his new club.
"I like the fact Adam brings knowledge, leadership and experience, and he is a very strong character, which you need to survive in the halves in the NRL," Walters said.
"He will help a lot of us, but we have to help him too and make sure he is comfortable in his role and position here. I believe we have the right people here to take his game to a level that we expect from him."
Reynolds's first game as captain will be at Lang Park on March 11, when he faces his old club in round 1.
