The proposed seven-storey residential block comprising 14 apartments is causing grief with neighbouring residents and businesses. “It’s a great shame that our wonderful city is facing another huge fight to save the cultural soul of a once-bustling community,” says Ben Carroll, director and co-founder of Applejack Hospitality, which owns The Butler.
The picturesque venue on Victoria Street, at the iconic site of Mezzaluna, counts international heavyweights Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, Rita Ora, and Aussie songstress Delta Goodrem as regulars.
“The over-gentrification and over-development of Sydney will see yet another hospitality venue close its doors. It will be enormous loss to the Potts Point community and our thousands of loyal regulars who love to soak in the Manhattan-style views,” adds Carroll.
Mystery buyer behind five-figure handbag
Perhaps the most sought-after accessory on the planet – the Hermes’ Kelly bag – and Sydney’s A-list will do just about anything to get a hold of their very own.
Emerald City can reveal one lucky local snapped up a black Kelly with silver hardware from designer reseller Pre Loved Closed last Thursday.
While the price wasn’t disclosed on the website, founder Lisa Anderson confirmed that it sold for upwards of $30,000 within 30 minutes of going live on the site.
However, Anderson was closely guarding the privacy of her cashed-up clients, keeping her lips sealed on the identities of the mystery buyer and seller.
“Australia is quite small, and it’s no small sum of money, so I wanted to do the sale privately without disclosing the exact amount,” she told Emerald City.

A brand-new, entry-level Birkin or Kelly bag with plain hardware costs about $9000 with demand for the exclusive bag meaning even the most well-connected can spend years on a wait list.
Despite Anderson being told Australian consumers would not pay in excess of $30,000 for a second-hand bag, it seems the appetite for the coveted accessory is stronger than expected.
Sydney influencer linked to Melbourne coffee heir
Fashion influencer and stylist Tash Sefton has certainly been quiet in recent years after the fallout between her then business partner Elle Ferguson and their blog, They All Hate Us.
And it seems her low profile extends to her love life and her romance with Melbourne coffee heir Adam Genovese.
Emerald City has long been told the pair have been dating with sightings of the smitten duo in Bondi, Byron, Alexandria and, most recently, Dior’s Sydney boutique reopening party.
“She debuted Adam at the Dior party, they looked to be enjoying themselves on the dance floor,” a guest told Emerald City.

“Adam and I have been together a while,” Sefton confirmed when contacted by Emerald City last week, adding she is no longer married. “Adam is my partner and no, I’m not married.”
The mum-of-two shares two sons Jay and Mac with her IT consultant ex-husband Mark. Adam, who opened Genovese coffee house in Sydney’s Alexandria last year, splits his time between Sydney and Melbourne where his three school-aged children are based.
