Labor MP Brian Mitchell's social media accounts are again in the spotlight over decade-old posts, with Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese conceding a tweet about female incontinence was "not appropriate".

In 2011, Mr Mitchell declared that women would lose control of their bladders and mops would be needed if the ALP national conference debate went on for much longer.

"If this debate doesn't wrap up soon we're going to need mops. Women don't do well holding on," Mr Mitchell tweeted.

Mr Albanese was asked to respond to the comments during his Saturday morning press conference on the campaign trail in Launceston.

He said he had not seen the tweet.

"I'm sure that Mr Mitchell regrets that."

Mr Mitchell was elected as the member for the Tasmanian seat of Lyons in 2016, and was re-elected in 2019 after the Liberal-endorsed candidate opposing him quit the party over controversial social media posts.

He holds the seat with a margin of 5.18 per cent.

Mr Mitchell has recently apologised for other comments he made online, including one about a colleague "massaging boobies", and another saying he was "prepared to gargle balls for money" to get an iPad 2.

Brian Mitchell has been a Labor MP for Lyons in Tasmania since 2016.

The posts were made before Mr Mitchell was elected to parliament.

Mr Mitchell, a former journalist and newspaper editor, called an ABC reporter a "maggot" in 2017.

Mr Mitchell has apologised and deleted the comments.

"I acknowledge that some of my previous comments have been insensitive," he said.

"I shouldn't have made them and I apologise for them. I've now removed the comments."
