“There are also relatively cool, south to south-east winds pushing in as well and that cloud cover will keep the overnight temperatures a little bit more moderate as well,” he said.

“Keeping the cloud cover around will not let temperatures drop too cool.”

People queueing to vote on Saturday might need an umbrella, as the Bureau of Meteorology predicted the heaviest rainfall on polling day.

“On Sunday we will see some more coastal showers, in the 10 millimetre to 15 millimetre range,” he said.

“But we still expect to see those coastal showers staying around a few more days.”

Brisbane’s southern suburbs, on the coastal beaches and towards Redcliffe should be slightly warmer, at 20 degrees.

The biggest influence on the south-east corner’s weather patterns was a slow-moving, high-pressure system near Tasmania, Kennedy said.

“It is keeping the onshore flows of moist air going for the majority of next week. There are no drier snaps on the horizon at this stage.”

The weather radar on the Bureau of Meteorology website showed rainfall over Greater Brisbane coming from two directions.

Showers were moving in from the south-east, and broader areas of rain falling from the cloud band moving in from the north-west.

South-easterly winds would reach 15 to 20km/h on Saturday, but lighten towards the evening.
