The ABC has announced the new leaders of three of its flagship news, current affairs and investigations programs.

Matthew Carney will become the executive producer of Four Corners, replacing long-time producer Sally Neighbour, who finished in the role earlier this month.

Carney has been the executive producer of Foreign Correspondent since 2018, has previously been a reporter for Four Corners, and led the ABC's North Asia and China bureaus.

His appointment to Four Corners will see Morag Ramsay replace Carney as executive producer of the Foreign Correspondent.

Ramsay is currently the supervising producer of Four Corners. She first joined the team as a field producer in 2000, and was appointed to her current role in 2015.

Joel Tozer has been appointed to the helm of the ABC's premier nightly current affairs program 7.30.

He replaces Justin Stevens, who was appointed as the ABC's Director of News, Analysis and Investigations in March.

Tozer joins the ABC from Nine's 60 Minutes, and has previously worked for the ABC and SBS.

Last year he shared in the Melbourne Press Club Quill award for Investigative Journalism for reporting that exposed the activities of neo-Nazi groups in Australia, which led to ASIO acknowledging far-right groups as a terrorist threat.

He will work alongside Sarah Ferguson, who will replace outgoing host Leigh Sales in July.

Stevens, said he was delighted to appoint "three of the most talented journalists in the Australian media" to the positions.

"Leading 7.30, Four Corners and Foreign Correspondent are three of the most important jobs in Australian journalism," he said.

"I'm delighted to have editorial leaders of the calibre of Matthew Carney, Joel Tozer and Morag Ramsay taking up these vital roles.

"ABC News is committed to delivering the nation's best and bravest investigative journalism and public interest reporting on behalf of all Australians and we're looking forward to seeing what Matthew, Joel and Morag do leading these exceptionally talented teams."
