WA has recorded another 5933 new COVID cases to 6pm Saturday night and has set another record for people in hospital.
But in good news, no new deaths linked to the disease have been recorded.
There are currently 36,673 active cases in Western Australia, WA Health reported on Sunday.
As of 6pm Saturday night, there were 377 people with COVID-19 in hospital, 17 of whom were in ICU.
The latest figures released on Saturday stated 351 were in hospital with the virus.
Sunday’s health figures report includes no new deaths.
Of the 5933 new cases, 2286 were confirmed via a PCR test and the remaining 3647 were self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.
A total of 4271 PCR tests were conducted at either State-run or private pathology clinics on Saturday.
WA has recorded 998,215 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
As revealed in today’s The Sunday Times Mark McGowan has insisted he will not be reintroducing indoor mask mandates in WA, despite COVID hospital admissions now breaking the 350 mark and medical experts predicting an August onslaught of the virus.
Emerging from Saturday’s National Cabinet meeting Mr McGowan delivered a grim outlook for next month, saying national medical advice was that COVID cases were expected to get “significantly worse” in August, putting enormous pressure on already stretched hospital resources.
Mr McGowan is strongly encouraging people to mask up in indoor crowded spaces - even though he won’t mandate it.
“The Chief Health Officer of Australia, Professor Paul Kelly advised us it’s (COVID infections) expected to get significantly worse,” Mr McGowan warned.
“This will be one of our hardest winters in terms of COVID, flu, other respiratory illnesses and the general pressure on our hospitals combined with huge numbers of staff furloughing.
“It’s going to be a difficult period for the coming few months.”
