Elon Musk may be the world’s richest man, but it appears he is still second in his father’s affections, after Errol Musk revealed it is his younger son Kimbal who is his “pride and joy”.
In an interview on Australian radio on Monday, the elder Musk claimed he was not proud of the chief executive of Tesla, and does not drive one of his coveted electric cars.
Speaking to The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Errol Musk said he had never received a handout from his eldest son, who is worth an estimated $US260 billion ($370 billion).
“We are a very frugal, stingy family,” said Errol Musk, a South African former pilot and engineer, who made his wealth in property development.
Asked whether he was proud of Elon, the 76-year-old said: “No, well, you know, I mean, we are a family that have been doing a lot of things for a long time. It’s not as though we suddenly started doing something.”

Elon is Errol’s eldest son with his first wife, Maye Musk. The pair also share daughter Tosca, 48, and son Kimbal, 49.
“He’s my pride and joy, Kimbal,” Musk said. While acknowledging that Elon has “surpassed the mark”, Musk stressed that Kimbal, a chef and restaurateur, was also a billionaire.
Despite his success, the elder Musk said the Tesla and SpaceX CEO was “not as happy as he’d like to be” because he feels he is “behind schedule” with his career.
