Zak Butters was the subject of some good-natured ribbing during Port Adelaide’s win over Essendon on Sunday.

The Power made light work of the Bombers at Marvel Stadium, coming away with an 84-point victory as Butters starred with 25 disposal and three goals.

During the third quarter, Butters was seen laughing when he turned to a Dons fan who had been getting stuck in verbally.

The Port young gun revealed the sledge he was receiving “on repeat” from the supporter while admitting he was all for the back and forth.

“One bloke over the fence, he was actually giving me a bit of stick,” he said on SEN SA’s The Run Home.

“I didn’t mind it.

“He just kept going so I thought I might have to give him something back here.

“He was actually a pretty funny man.

“He just kept screaming on repeat, ‘You suck, Butters’. It definitely put a smile on my face.”

Butters admits he might not have reacted the same way if the Power were getting beaten and he was struggling to get a kick.

“It probably would have hit home then,” he added.

“Luckily enough we were up by a fair bit and I was getting a kick. It helps (you) fire back after you’re doing that.”

The 21-year-old was seen pointing to the scoreboard during the exchange which he admits led to plenty of joviality between the two.

“I remember looking back and he had a nice, big grin on his face,” Butters said further.

“I think we both got our fair share of laughs out of it.”

And what did he make of the frustrated Dons crowd?

“Their crowd was definitely vocal at stages throughout the game,” he said.

“They seemed quite frustrated. I did see a few things that the crowd was frustrated later on in the game.”
