A teenage girl has been arrested over the alleged stabbing of a student at a high school in the New South Wales Central West.

Paramedics were called to Canobolas Rural Technology High in Orange at about 1pm.

Police say a 16-year-old girl has suffered arm and chest injuries.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to the Orange Hospital in a stable condition.

A 15-year old girl has been arrested and is being interviewed at Orange police station.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway.
