Sydneysiders hoping for a reprieve from the rain are in for disappointment, with more wet days ahead and a forecast of a wetter than average spring.
While the rain that soaked the city on Saturday morning is predicted to clear in the afternoon, showers are forecast again for Father’s Day on Sunday.
“It won’t be as wet as Saturday; there will be showers that should clear off by mid-morning,” the Bureau of Meteorology’s Olenka Duma said on Saturday.
“In terms of picnicking, the ground is still going to be very wet.”
Sydney will experience “odd showers” at the start of next week, before a rain band sets in on Wednesday that is predicted to drench the city for at least three days.
“It will be wet across NSW, and there is the possibility of severe thunderstorms across the state,” she said.
Looking forward to the rest of spring, the news isn’t any better for those hoping for a break in the wet weather.
“The outlook for September is very wet; October looking wetter than average too,” Duma said.
“We’re heading towards a third La Nina. It’ll be a wet spring and early summer at least.”
