Shane Warne’s eldest daughter, Brooke Warne, has slammed Nine’s announcement of a Shane Warne miniseries due to air next year. The show, Warnie, was unveiled at Nine’s 2023 programming launch at Sydney’s Luna Park on Wednesday.

Taking to Instagram, Brooke, 25, expressed her disappointment: “Do any of you have any respect for Dad? Or his family? Who did so much for Channel 9, and now you want to dramatise his life and our family’s life six months after he has passed away? You are beyond disrespectful.”

Warnie is set to screen over two nights next year, and was first confirmed in March (the same month Warne passed away from natural causes in Thailand) by Nine’s head of drama, Andy Ryan.

“Warnie’s life was so full of drama, like the man himself,” Ryan said at the time. “This miniseries will be larger than life – entertaining, confronting, thought-provoking.

“We want to explore what made Warnie so special and why he had such a powerful effect on people. He was a sporting legend, national treasure, and an international kind of icon, but he was also a larrikin, a rogue, a charmer, and a flawed man.”

In June, Warne’s longtime manager James Erskine also criticised the decision to dramatise the cricketer’s life.

“He’s only been dead for a couple of months, and for them to turn this around and think about doing some sensational thing, well, they should be ashamed of themselves,” Erskine told the Herald Sun. “I will be writing to Peter Costello because he is their chairman and saying, please explain.“
