It wasn’t until Wednesday, when a truck driver checked his dashcam footage, that police were called to the scene to investigate a report that a person had possibly been hit by a vehicle earlier in the week.

The driver of the truck said he originally thought he had hit an animal but made the call to police after the incident kept playing on his mind.

It was when police investigated the incident on Wednesday that they discovered the human remains.

The highway was blocked northbound for several hours as a crime scene established by police caused traffic to back up with motorists being advised to avoid the area.

Police soon located human remains on the side of the road.

An investigation is now under way into how Howard ended up on the roadside.

No one has been charged over the incident yet.

“Investigations continue and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” police said.

Meanwhile, Howard is being remembered as one of “the good ones” by family and friends.

“We’re all going to miss you,” cousin Robbie Gordon shared on Facebook.

“The family is trying to hold it together but we (are) all crushed

“I keep asking why do the good ones go early, but you will always be with us my cuz (sic).

“We will meet again one day but until then we have to hold the rest of the family together.”
