The conversion goes wide, so it's a 30-10 win for Australia's men's side.

No-one can say Australia didn't deserve to win that game, but it almost feels like an anti-climax, after Samoa's run to the final was so enthralling, for them to only get on the board late.

Honestly, the Australian side seemed to be peaking at the right time, while the Samoans genuinely looked tired out there.

Losing Chanel Harris-Tavita also completely messed with their set-up on both sides of the ball, and made it tough for them to fire a shot in the second half.

Latrell puts the cap on a famous win!

The play wasn't pretty in the lead-up, but Nathan Cleary fired out a cut-out ball to Latrell Mitchell in space and the Rabbitohs superstar did the rest.

What a sign-off from two of this team's guns who were maligned for underwhelming tournaments.

79th minute

Well that just seems mean, as Nathan Cleary belts a 40/20.

And we have a streaker. Good work. Height of comedy.

Anyway, Australia will run out the clock here.

I thought the busted Spencer Leniu might get there, then Jarome Luai grubbered for himself, but Angus Crichton flew across from nowhere. Great effort play from the big forward.

76th minute

Latrell Mitchell strips Jaydn Su'a but knocks on in the process. So Samoa will reload from just on the wrong side of halfway.

75th minute

Cameron Munster tries a bunted grubber, but I think Angus Crichton overran him and was offside. Another nothing play from Munster. He hasn't been at his best tonight.

Milford bombs from his 40m line. Australia needs to resettle now.

A set restart will help.

Stephen Crichton gets another intercept!

Is this guy a master of disguise or something? Opposition players just seem to find him.

This time it was Ben Hunt, who was just trying to pop a short ball from dummy half, and Crichton came from nowhere to tap it forward, chase it down, and score in the corner.

Crichton hits the post, so it's still 16 points the difference with eight minutes left.

Tedesco is in for a massive double!

Absolutely perfectly executed inside-outside play.

Every member of the spine got a touch: Ben Hunt going right from dummy half, turning it back for Nathan Cleary, who spins it out to Cameron Munster, who pops it back inside for the flying James Tedesco to burst through the gap at full speed and on a perfect line.

That's the back-breaker.

68th minute

Tino Fa'asuamaleaui joins the fray in the final 15 minutes for Australia.

Latrell Mitchell makes valuable metres through the middle, as does Reagan Campbell-Gillard.

Oh Brian To'o is almost away on an intercept, but he couldn't stay on his feet as he swooped on Nathan Cleary's loose pass. Still, Samoa with the ball in good field position.

But Luai's pass goes to ground and the play dies out wide.

SAMOA IS IN! IT'S BRIAN TO'O!

It looked like the numbers matched up as Jarome Luai drifted across, and Latrell Mitchell went for the intercept on Luai's cut-out pass. But he only came up with air, and Kelma Tuilagi summed things up, sending To'o over out wide.

Stephen Crichton slots the sideline conversion. So this match is alive with 18 minutes left.

59th minute: The Kangaroos are in again, but no try

Josh Addo-Carr breaks down the left and kicks back infield for Angus Crichton, but he couldn't get the bounce, and fumbled with the line at his mercy.

The pass was probably on for Addo-Carr, but can't blame him for kicking, and Crichton really should've finished it off.

58th minute

Samoa tries to get something going with the offload game that's served them so well, but it ends in a knock-on at halfway.

The Kangaroos will launch another attack.

57th minute

Harry Grant tries a dummy-half sneak, but Joseph Suaali'i is strong enough to hold him up.

The Kangaroos are pinged for an obstruction, so a let-off for Samoa, but Angus Crichton is back on. So it's 13 vs 13 again.

55th minute

Two minutes left in the sin bin for Angus Crichton. Meanwhile, Samoa's line-up has been scrambled by the loss of hooker Chanel Harris-Tavita.

Milford is dummy half in attack, but defending in the halves. No clue who's partnering Luai in attack.

Cleary uncorks a spiral bomb, and Penrith teammate Stephen Crichton has hit the extended kicking leg in an attempted chargedown, spinning Cleary like a top and earning the Kangaroos a penalty.

Cameron Murray goes over for Australia!

My word. What a ball from Nathan Cleary. What a line from Cameron Murray. Makes it look very simple.

They're targeting Milford in defence, and it paid off there with a superb short ball to send Murray over basically untouched.

Cleary converts for 20-0.

51st minute

Another gift for Samoa, with Latrell Mitchell wrestling Papali'i off him, and knocking on as he tries to plant the ball to play it.

But Cameron Munster rips it back for Australia, robbing Spencer Leniu blind. Maybe targeting the dodgy shoulder.

50th minute

Josh Papali'i almost powers over through the middle!

The Samoan attack turns to mess after some scramble from the undermanned Aussies, and Milford grubbers it dead. Small in-goals, man.

By Jon Healy

49th minute

Oh no. Carrigan knocks on cold. Samoa is gifted another chance with 13 on 12.
