A look at Travis Head’s Test career
As Head moves to 37, alongside Smith on 143, here’s a graph looking at the former’s Test career to date.
He got his average above 50 briefly but it’s below 40 now. A decent dig here will bump that back up over 40.
Head’s just not the same player overseas.
A tough old day in the field for the Windies
Wow. Smith whacks Holder through mid-off for four. He’s absolutely creamed that and is really freeing the arms now he’s well past 100.
Travis Head follows suit. He gets some room and crunches a cover drive to the boundary.
These two have put on 60 runs for the fourth wicket.
A grim day for the tourists, who just can’t make any inroads in this Australian order.
Australia 3-462
Smith moves to 130
Steve Smith hits a beautiful cover drive that races to the fence. Seales just overpitches and Australia’s second drop pounces.
A very, very one-sided contest is playing out in Perth at the moment. The Windies are bowling like they’re waiting for a declaration.
Australia 3-441 from 128 overs
Head needs a score in Perth
Smith knocks one around the corner and instead of settling for a single, gets out of the blocks quickly and scampers back for a second run. That’s excellent intent.
Head is building his innings nicely. However, he hasn’t scored a century in his previous eight innings, which have yielded 99 runs at 14.14. His performances in limited overs cricket have been top-notch but he hasn’t been able to plunder runs against the red ball for some time.
Australia 3-426 (Smith 123, Head 15)
In case you missed it: Smith equals Bradman
Head begins with a bang
Travis Head manages a couple of boundaries to get his innings going at better than a run a ball.
Who could forget Head’s sensational hundred in Hobart last year? Serious dig. The Aussies will be hoping for more of that.
Smith is in cruise mode. The Windies don’t look like getting him out.
Australia 3-414
Players are back in the middle
Righto. The middle session of day two is upon us.
You’d imagine Steve Smith will up the tempo a little now that he has passed triple figures.
Australia will be hoping to get close to 500 before declaring. Unless there’s a major collapse in the next hour.
Travis Head can also score at a decent rate.
Labuschagne gone for 204
Right on the stroke of lunch, Labuschagne is caught behind.
A bit of a bizarre dismissal in a way. Labuschagne tries to hit off-spinner Kraigg Brathwaite behind point but gets a thick edge that is caught excellently by Joshua Da Silva.
He looks shattered. A fantastic knock though - his second highest in Test cricket.
Smith is unbeaten on 114.
Australia 3-402
Bang: Labuschagne brings up double century
Stand and applause folks.
Marnus Labuschagne has peeled off his second Test double century.
After a superb showing on day one, Labuschagne has backed it up in style.
He brings up the double ton with a beautiful cover drive to the fence. A terrific innings.
Australia 2-401
Ponting: ‘I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him bat better’
