C*A*U*G*H*T (Stan)
From producer, director, writer and actor Kick Gurry - what is that, a quadruple threat? - a wild comedy series about four soldiers on a secret mission to a war-torn country who are captured, and whose hostage video goes viral. Hefty A-list cast including Sean Penn, Lincoln Younes, Matthew Fox, Fayssal Bazzi, Bryan Brown and Rebecca Breeds.

Paper Dolls (Ten)
The story of the manufactured girl band Indigo, inspired by the real-life story of Bardot. It has all the ingredients: fame-hungry young pop stars and a profit-hungry reality TV machine, plus a twist pitting one of the band members against the record label that crossed her. Produced by Mark Fennessy, and created and written by Ainslie Clouston with Bardot’s Belinda Chapple as co-executive producer.

Warnie (Nine)
A two-part biopic about the life of Shane Warne, “an Aussie legend, a cultural icon, a cricketing genius, a charmer and a rogue”, produced by Screentime with the co-operation of Warne’s family. The miniseries stars Alex Williams (Underground: The Julian Assange Story) and Anthony Hayes (Gold).

The Clearing (Disney+)
Based on J.P. Pomare’s novel In the Clearing and is inspired by the real-life Australian cult The Family, an eight-part psychological thriller about a woman who must deal with the nightmares of her past. The cast includes Teresa Palmer, Miranda Otto and Guy Pearce; the series was created by Elise McCredie (Stateless) and Matt Cameron (Jack Irish).

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (Amazon)
Also from Bruna Papandrea’s production company Made Up Stories, a seven-part television series based on the novel by Australian author Holly Ringland, adapted for the screen by Sarah Lambert and featuring an outstanding cast: Sigourney Weaver, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Asher Keddie, Leah Purcell, Alexander England, Charlie Vickers and Tilda Cobham-Hervey.

NCIS Sydney (Ten)

Wellmania (Netflix)
Based on Brigid Delaney’s novel Wellmania: Misadventures in the Search for Wellness, and created by Delaney and Benjamin Law. Stars comedian and actress Celeste Barber.

Hijack (Apple TV+)
A seven-part thriller told in real time, starring Idris Elba as a negotiator trapped for seven hours on an airplane which has been hijacked over London.

The Claremont Murders (Seven)
A 25-year investigation follows the disappearance of three young women in Perth in the late 1990s; starring Jeremy Lindsay Taylor and Tasma Walton, produced and directed by Peter Andrikidis.

House of Gods (ABC)
A six-part “tale of faith, family, secrets and lies”, which takes audiences behind the walls of an imam’s family. Written by Osamah Sami (Ali’s Wedding, Savage River).

Safe Home (SBS)
Young lawyer Phoebe (Aisha Dee) spurns prestige for a struggling legal centre. Also stars Mabel Li, Virginia Gay, Thomas Cocquerel and Antonia Prebble.

Daisy Jones & The Six (Amazon)
A wild adaptation of the book of the same name written by Taylor Jenkins Reid about a fictional Fleetwood Mac-esque band who split at the height of their fame. Stars Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, as Daisy Jones.

The Three-Body Problem (Netflix)
An ambitious science fiction series based on the novel of the same name by Liu Cixin; the adaptation is written by Game of Thrones screenwriters David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo.

Last King of the Cross (Paramount+)
Inspired by the autobiography of nightclub owner John Ibrahim and his experiences in Sydney’s Kings Cross; stars Lincoln Younes as John Ibrahim.

One of several new Star Wars titles expected this year, a mystery thriller about the “shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era”.

Skeleton Crew (Disney+)
Another of Lucasfilm’s expected 2023 streaming Star Wars slate, this is about a group of kids lost in the Star Wars galaxy and trying to get home. Among its adult cast, Jude Law.

Vardy v Rooney (Foxtel)
Using court transcripts, the dramatisations of the “Wagatha Christie” case between “footballer wives” Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney. Stars Natalia Tena, Chanel Cresswell and Michael Sheen.

Limbo (ABC)
Directed by Trent O’Donnell, a comedy starring Ryan Corr and Bob Morley as best friends who are learning “how hard it is to let go of those we love.” Also stars Russell Dykstra and Aaron Fa’aoso.

Class of 07 (Amazon)
Lord of the Flies-style survival comedy about a group of women at a school reunion who are stranded after a tidal wave. Stars Emily Browning, Caitlin Stasey and Megan Smart.

Stonehouse (Britbox)
Matthew Macfadyen stars as British MP John Stonehouse who, in 1974, staged his own death and fled to Melbourne. Also stars Keeley Hawes and Kevin McNally.

Dear Edward (Apple TV+)
Developed by Jason Katims from the novel of the same name by Ann Napolitano, about a young boy (Colin O’Brien) who is the sole survivor of a plane crash which claims the lives of his family.

True Spirit (Netflix)
Directed by Sarah Spillane and written by Spillane, Rebecca Banner and Cathy Randall, a film based on the inspirational true story of young Australian sailor Jessica Watson (Teagan Croft).

SAS: Rogue Heroes (SBS)
British historical drama about the origin of the SAS during the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. Stars Connor Swindells, Alfie Allen and Dominic West.
