Weatherzone meteorologist James Rout said about 20,000 lightning strikes were recorded within 20 kilometres of Camden Airport, near Campbelltown in the city’s south-west, from 8pm on Tuesday.
“[Camden Airport] also recorded 20 millimetres of rain in the 10 minutes to 8.30pm, which is very intense, short rain,” he said.
About 2600 lightning strikes were recorded between 9pm and 11pm within 20 kilometres of the Sydney CBD.
