A man aged in his 20s has been taken into custody after a siege in Sunnybank Hills.

Police made a Public Safety Preservation Act emergency declaration at Bradman Street just after 1pm, responding to reports a man and woman were holed up in a bathroom.

Negotiators were on the scene for a few hours before communications broke down and tactical action had to be used to gain entry to the room.

Bradman Street and nearby roads were closed, and local residents were urged to stay inside as police responded.

The man was taken to hospital in police custody with injuries to his legs.

A woman aged in her 20s was also taken to hospital but is believed to be uninjured.

Charges are expected to be laid.
