The connections of I Wish I Win are yet to remove the boom horse from All-Star Mile contention after voting closed for the $5 million race on Sunday night.

The Golden Eagle winner, who will next run in the 1200-metre Newmarket Handicap, finished second in the voting with 16,002 votes, only behind Alligator Blood on 18,301 votes.

But questions remain whether trainer Peter Moody would dare to run the potential superstar gelding over 1600m just seven days after the Newmarket.

Alligator Blood, Mr Brightside and I’m Thunderstruck are certain to meet at Moonee Valley on March 18, however, after the trio filled the placings in Saturday’s group 1 Futurity Stakes.

They were first, fourth and third respectively in the All-Star Mile voting, from Australian Bloodstock gelding Nugget, Tasmanian star The Inevitable and Toorak Handicap winner Tuvalu.

Orr Stakes winner Jacquinot was eighth in voting, and will compete in this week’s group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington before adding a three-year-old flavour to the All-Star Mile. Keats and Gentleman Roy round out the top 10 in voting, making them certain starters in the world’s richest mile race.

“The top 10 represents a fantastic blend of horses with established weight-for-age stars, emerging topline talent, and a couple of wonderful feelgood stories in The Inevitable and Keats,” Racing Victoria’s executive general manager of racing Matt Welsh said.

“Full credit to Alligator Blood who topped voting for a second time. He was brilliant winning the Futurity Stakes on Saturday, but we know that a full field of 15 at The Valley represents a different challenge.
