Q: Craig, a lot to break down there, uncharacteristic to how you performed this year, what were the key concerns and reasons?
A: The game was won and lost in the second quarter really. 35-point margin or something around that, that was the total margin in the end. I thought in that quarter clearly we gave away some uncharacteristic free kicks from our centre bounces not being organised. It’s something we want to pride ourselves on. There isn’t a stat about being connected. That’s something we worked I challenged the guys at half-time around what that look you had like. You can’t give a team on the home deck territory to Brisbane, we gave them free kick and centre bounces.
Q: There were free kicks, was there confusion around the ruck or was there a reason for them?
A: One of them might have been. There were things we were trying to do with Billy Frampton. That might have been the case. There are no excuses, that is within our control. To give up three quickly it shows how disconnected we were for that part of the game. The rut is what it is. We fought the game out reasonably well. A few uncharacteristic skill errors, decision errors, the conditions up here sometimes allows that.
(QUESTION INAUDIBLE)
A: We scored more from stoppages than they did. I’m not sure. In terms of losing territory is always a cost. Something we need to work through. There is no quick fix. We got what we’ve got. We have to work through it. Ash Johnston I think we found a player, he is doing some stuff more consistently than he has in the past. That could be a little gift for us.
Q: Do you think it’s probably smart to keep with it, to develop that, rather than look at another way to go about it?
A: I don’t think there is a magic solution to it. We have to get better at what we are doing. Clearances weren’t a huge cost, a half a dozen here and there. As I said we won the scoring battle from stoppage and we thought if we could manage that at the start of the game we would be OK. Always a threat their ability to score from stoppage. The first real game we had of it, I’m sure we will learn a lot from it.
Q: I guess it would have been a long day for Jack after the video last night. Were you happy for him to play tonight given what happened?
A: I’m not going to comment on what is going on with it, in terms of Jack like every player on our list we love and support them, 100% got their back around them as people and humans. I have said this before, there’s lots of stuff that goes on within our players that I’m not always going to condone, I’m a father. I don’t always condone the things my kids do, at the end of the day we love and support them. That’s not going to change.
Q: Did it have an impact on the group?
A: I wouldn’t have thought so. I’m not going to make any excuses for anything. Brisbane were really good, let’s face it, they have beaten Melbourne up here. Everyone is saying Melbourne is the team to beat. We went down. They lost four out of five games they are good.
Q: What did you learn?
A: We have learnt a lot about ourselves. If we play Brisbane again we have to be particularly good around territory maintaining that connecting around 50. Finishing with shots, we had scoring shots. We generated enough opportunities but we were chasing our tail for pretty much the second half.
