Koepka denied he signalled to Woodland’s caddie he had hit with a five iron onto the green as he took off his glove.
“I don’t know if you’re supposed to take your glove off with your fist closed or what now,” he said.
Jason Day’s hopes of a first green jacket are fading after a spectacular late-round collapse.
On track to be stalking Koepka heading into the third round, Day (five under) dropped four shots on his final four holes, including chunking a short pitch into the water to take a double bogey on the 15th hole.
The former world No.1 looked every bit the player who was a force in the sport for many years during the first part of his round, even recreating the famous Larry Mize chip in on the 11th hole for a birdie to put himself in striking distance of Koepka.
However, his horror closing stretch put a huge dent in his Masters hopes.
Australians Adam Scott (four under) and Smith (two under) have eight and 10 holes, respectively, to play to finish their second rounds.
Play was suspended for an 11-minute period due to inclement weather before the second tree collapse forced the abandonment. No fans or players were hurt, with Australians Min Woo Lee and Harrison Crowe the closest to the incident.

Koepka had no such dramas as he chases another leg of the grand slam at Augusta National following a turbulent career stretch, which has included debilitating knee problems.
“I feel like all the greats have won here, and they have all won British Opens as well,” he said. “Look, I guess it’s one more box for me to tick to truly feel like I’ve done what I should have accomplished in this game.
“Probably towards the end of last year, I felt it was coming. It wasn’t exactly all the way there.
Probably, I’d say January I knew I was back.”
Tiger Woods (two over) is right on the cut line, with seven holes left to finish his second round.
