Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell was frank post 82-point loss on Sunday evening that his side had no answers to a humming Geelong.
“I just think that third quarter, the way that they played and the complete change in the game, we just couldn’t find any answers in any way,” said Mitchell.
He said the message he gave to at three-quarter time to the playing group was to try and reset after they had won the first two quarters and loss the third.
“And let’s see how we can go in the last quarter, let’s play the right way...let’s see if we can challenge them again.
He said he understood it would be extremely difficult to win at that point but wanted his side to continue to play with spirit.
When Geelong kicked ten goals to nothing in the third quarter, Mitchell attempted they were “humming at their best”, as his side was at a loss to compete with the reigning premiers in their best form.
“I think we’ve been waiting for Geelong to do that for the first three and a half games and it came in that third quarter and we just had no answers. As harsh as it sounds to us, we just had no answers for them,” said Mitchell.
