Taylor Swift fans and their parents hoping to snag tickets to the Australian dates of her Eras Tour are facing a tense day.
General public tickets go on sale on Friday.
But, at 10am AEST, the Frontier Members Pre-sale tickets for Sydney were released.
By 1:43pm AEST Ticketek confirmed via its social media accounts that all pre-sale tickets to Sydney were sold out bar some VIP packages.
The pre-sale for Melbourne tickets started at 2pm AEST.
It's Swift's first Australian tour since 2018 and, as she's only playing in Sydney and Melbourne, there's huge demand for tickets.
There was an earlier pre-sale — which only offered the two most expensive tickets — on Monday.
The only way to access those tickets was through the American Express website, which crashed as fans rushed to secure their seats.
Ticketek's tips for snagging a ticket
Ticketek, the official seller of Taylor Swift Era Tour tickets in Australia, is braced for high demand.
Yesterday afternoon, the company posted tips on how to secure a ticket. Here's the advice:
- Have your Frontier Pre-sale code ready
- Enter the Ticketek Lounge at least 15 minutes before the sale starts
- Don't refresh your browser
- Once you're through, keep an eye on the countdown timer and fill out the details within the time frame
How many tickets can you buy?
There's a limit of four per customer.
If you want to buy more than four, you have to order with a different Ticketek account as well as a different debit card.
The company says it may cancel tickets for people who are detected as buying more than four with the same email address, billing address, credit card number or other information.
When are Taylor Swift's Australian tour dates?
Melbourne — Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG):
- Friday, February 16
- Saturday, February 17
Sydney — Accor Stadium:
- Friday, February 23
- Saturday, February 24
- Sunday, February 25
How many tickets are available?
We don't have exact figures.
But we can make vague estimates based on the capacity of the venues.
The MCG has a capacity of 100,000 people and the Accor Stadium can hold 83,500 people.
However, it's unclear if all those seats would be filled or what the capacity for the mosh pit would be.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates there will be about 450,500 tickets sold — that's only enough for 1.7 per cent of Australia's population.
Scalpers told to 'get a life'
Minister for Government Services Bill Shorten spoke about it on RN this morning.
He was on the show being interviewed about the government's plans to reduce spending on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, with Patricia Karvelas wrapping up the interview by asking him if tickets should be off limits to scalpers.
"My gut reaction is anyone who's seeking to carve a margin above the registered price is being opportunistic," Mr Shorten said.
"It's not behaviour I support.
"I know that in the past different governments have put in limits on what scalpers can do.
"I just say to people who think that it's good to rip off a family or some teenage girls who want to go and listen to TayTay you know, really, is that your business model?
"Really?! Get a life."
