A-Leagues club Perth Glory has gone into receivership, ending businessman Tony Sage's 15-year ownership.

The Australian Professional Leagues (APL) announced on Saturday the club's management had been handed to advisory firm KordaMentha.

The firm will control the club's operations until the licence can be handed over to new owners, which the ALP says is "expected to conclude within the next 10 weeks".

Sage, who had owned the team since 2008, ceased his control of the club immediately.

Under his ownership, the men's team claimed the premiership in 2019 and the women's team won a premiership in 2014.

APL chief executive Danny Townsend said it was pleasing the issues surrounding the club's management were nearing a conclusion.

"Perth Glory have faced incredibly difficult circumstances over the last five years and we are pleased to close off this period of uncertainty for players, staff, members and fans as they continue their preparations for next season," he said.

"Here we have a process that allows for the club's operations to continue 'business as usual', whilst the technical adjustments are made to the club's ownership structure.

"Under this league structure, the continuity of our clubs is now guaranteed by the league."

The announcement came on the same day Perth hosted its first match of the FIFA Women's World Cup, with Denmark facing China.
