Australian Daniel Ricciardo is set to return to Formula 1 Sunday night after missing the opening half of this season.

But the Western Australian is stepping into arguably the slowest car on the grid, AlphaTauri, and he has his work cut out for him if he is going to score points.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton starts on pole, looking for his first win since 2021.

Here is everything you need to know about this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.

When and where is the race?

The race gets underway at 11pm AEST and is being held at the Hungaroring, in the village of Mogyoród on the outskirts of the capital Budapest.

The village is roughly 20 kilometres north-east of Budapest's CBD.

Budapest is situated on the Danube River, which cuts it in half.

It is near the Hungarian borders with Slovakia and Austria, with Budapest and Vienna separated by approximately 240km.

What do I need to know about the track?

The Hungaroring is a notoriously hard track to overtake on.

Track position is key around this tricky and narrow circuit.

The best spot for drivers to make a move is into turn 1, at the end of the long straight in the DRS zone.

After turn 1 the track is very complex, with a tough and windy section from turns 5 to 11 that can unsettle the car and be hard on its rear wheels.

How can I watch the race in Australia?

The only place to watch all the action is via the Fox Sports stable of broadcasting channels.

It will be available on both Foxtel and Kayo Sports.

What happened last year?

Max Verstappen took a stranglehold of the 2022 championship by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix, despite starting 10th.
