A young Perth tradesman who died after being electrocuted in the roof space of a Nollamara property on Saturday morning has been identified as Matthew Milner.
The 24-year-old was attending a half-day job at the property when 9 News Perth reported the family who owned the Milford Way house heard a loud bang and the electrician cry out.
They then made the grim discovery.
Worksafe and Energy Safety are investigating how the tragedy occurred, with Energy Safety director Saj Aboolakhan saying the power to the house should not have been on at the time.
“It’s a very tragic event. It’s really sad when someone goes to work, you expect to come back,” he said.
“We are trying to establish what happened in this case as there is normally very limited reasons why the power should stay on when somebody is working in the roof space.
“The law requires anyone who is doing work in the ceiling space or roof space of any domestic property to switch off the power.”
Milner’s wife Monique Milner posted a heartbreaking tribute to her husband on Instagram on Saturday afternoon.
“Always and forever my boy … watch over me whilst I live out the life we were meant to live together,” she wrote.
