Australia's women's soccer team the Matildas are through to the next round of the FIFA Women's World Cup after a stunning 4-0 victory over Canada last night.

Here's what you need to know before their next game.

Who do the Matildas play next?

We don't know yet.

They'll play against the runners-up from Group D

At this stage, England, Denmark and China are all up for that position.

But we won't know until all teams in Group D play tonight.

  • China vs England: 9pm AEST, 8:30pm ACST and 7pm AWST — playing at Adelaide's Hindmarsh Stadium
  • Denmark vs Haiti: 9pm AEST, 8:30pm ACST and 7pm AWST — playing at Perth Rectangular Stadium

When is the Matildas' next game?

The Matildas will next play on Monday, August 7.

Kick-off time is 8:30pm AEST, 8pm ACST and 6:30pm AWST.

Where do the Matildas play next?

They'll be playing at Stadium Australia in Sydney

Will Sam Kerr be playing?

The Matildas' star player Sam Kerr has been plagued by a calf injury.

She didn't play in Australia's first two matches and was on the bench for the match against Canada.

Kerr was willing to risk it to play the Canadians, but only if things got desperate — which we all know they didn't.

The hope is that, after another week of recovery, Kerr will be right to play.

Why were the Matildas wearing blue jerseys?

Usually the Matildas wear yellow jerseys, because the team's colours are green and gold.

But they were wearing a turquoise blue jersey against Canada:

That's the same colour as their away jerseys.

"National team away kits have been typically in the blue colour scheme to represent the waters and oceans of Australia," a Matildas spokesperson says.

Typically, a team will wear their main, most recognisable jersey when it's playing at their own stadium and different colours if they've had to travel to another team's venue.

Why did the Matildas wear their away colours in Australia?

That's decided by the international football governing body FIFA, a Matildas spokesperson explains.

"Australia was placed in group 1B as co-hosts and that draw position is what determines which nation is considered 'home' and 'away'.

"Pre-tournament, each nation has to provide what their home and away kits will be and we don't have discretion to change it."

But expect to see the yellow jerseys next week.

"As we finished on top of the group, we will be considered the home team for the next match so we will wear the green and gold home kit."
