Alex de Minaur has made it two Australians in the fourth round at the US Open, with the 13th seed storming past Chile's Nicolas Jarry inside two hours.
- Thirteenth seed De Minaur and Rinky Hijikata are the only Australians still in the draw
- De Minaur could face former world number one Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round
- De Minaur has only reached the quarterfinals of a slam once, at the 2020 US Open
The Australian number one only spent 104 minutes on court against 23rd-seeded Jarry as he notched a 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Coming on the back of a dominant straight-sets win over Yibing Wu of China, de Minaur has now dropped just 10 games in his past two matches.
It saw him join compatriot and wildcard Rinky Hijikata in the last 16 at Flushing Meadows.
New York was the site of de Minaur's only journey to the quarterfinals of a slam, making it to the last eight in 2020, where he lost to eventual champion Dominic Thiem.
De Minaur will likely have to take down another former champ, 2021 winner Daniil Medvedev, if he is to reach another quarterfinal.
Russian Medvedev is taking on Sebastian Baez in the third round for the right to face de Minaur, who is in something close to career-best form.
De Minaur has beaten Medvedev twice in the past 10 months, including last month in straight sets en route to his maiden appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 final in Toronto.
Against Jarry, de Minaur hit fewer winners (10-24) and aces (2-4), but was simply unbeatable as he used his speed to cover every centimetre of court 17 and made just 10 unforced errors to Jarry's 40.
He broke the South American six times, saved the solitary break point on his own serve and won a staggering 85 per cent of points after landing his first delivery, although he only landed it in play on half his attempts.
Tellingly, de Minaur punished Jarry almost every time he missed a first serve, winning 19 of 27 points on the Chilean's second delivery.
