Son Heung-min has scored a ripping hat-trick for Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham in a 5-2 rout of Burnley, but he was far from unique on the day.

Spurs moved to second on the Premier League table with three wins and a draw from their first four games thanks to Son's trio of goals.

Two other players joined him with hat-tricks in their own matches, with Erling Haaland leading Manchester City's 5-1 thumping of Fulham, while Irish 18-year-old Evan Ferguson scored all of Brighton and Hove Albion's goals in a 3-1 win over Newcastle.

Tottenham captain Son was called on to cancel out a surprise fourth-minute opener from Burnley's Lyle Foster, doing so with a crafty chip over James Trafford in the 16th.

Cristian Romero gave Spurs the lead heading into half-time with a bullet from outside the box in stoppage time, while James Maddison made it 3-1 with his second goal in two league games, curling past a helpless Trafford.

Son doubled up in the 63rd minute before an 'Ange ball' special capped off the treble.

Starting with Romero on the byline at the other end of the field, Spurs made 15 crisp passes in their own half before Pedro Porro fired a ball in behind Burnley's defence for Son to latch onto and slot home in the 66th minute.

"Sonny was outstanding," Postecoglou said.

"He led our press, then he has the quality to take his chances. I'm really pleased for him."

Postecoglou has experimented with playing Son up front more after the departure of striker Harry Kane, but the Australian manager may be able to take another route soon.
