A north Queensland rugby league coach has been charged with more than 30 child exploitation offences for alleged abuse spanning two-and-a-half years.

Jason Paul Williams, 48, was arrested by the Townsville Child Abuse Unit in July on seven charges, including three counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16.
After further investigation, detectives charged him with 25 more offences in August, including 12 counts of making child exploitation material and seven counts of using a carriage service to transmit or make child exploitation material available.
Police said the offences took place between January 2021 and July 2023 and included the alleged abuse of multiple children.
Mr Williams has a 20-year affiliation with the Burdekin Roosters rugby league club, where he has held a range of administrative and coaching positions.
Most recently, he coached the open women's team.
Queensland Rugby League confirmed he had been stood down immediately from the club and deregistered.
Mr Williams was denied bail in the Townsville Magistrates Court and is due to reappear in court on September 15.
