The Western Bulldogs boldly parted with three first-round selections for Gold Coast’s pick four, knowing they have another top-line father-son recruit on the way.

The Dogs sent picks 10 and 17, as well as their future first-round choice, to the Suns on Monday in exchange for selections four, 46 and 51 and a future third-rounder.

Jordan Croft, a 200-centimetre forward-ruck whose father Matthew played 186 games for the club, is yet to officially nominate as father-son eligible, but Bulldogs list boss Sam Power said they were “really keen”.

The 18-year-old would add to an impressive collection of tall timber at the Kennel, including Aaron Naughton, Tim English, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Sam Darcy, and is expected to attract an opposition bid anywhere from pick 10 to somewhere in the mid-teens.

The Dogs could therefore select a top talent with pick four (as it stands now) and still match a bid for Croft using 38, 46 and 51. They’ve been linked to small forward Nick Watson, but Bulldogs list manager Sam Power said he was one of a number of players they had their eye on.

Croft booted 23 goals in 11 games for the Calder Cannons in the Talent League and represented Vic Metro at the AFL under-18 championships.

Players of Croft’s height are highly coveted in the AFL, especially when they are as agile and quick as he is.
