Australia requires a further 156 runs to win the second Test against the West Indies in Brisbane, having battled through a tough third day.
Steve Smith and Cameron Green were unbeaten at the close of play with the score at 2-60, Australia having chipped away at its initial target of 216 runs to win.
The Australians lost Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne before stumps, but overall made a strong start to a potentially tricky run chase.
In extreme Brisbane heat, Australia's bowlers were made to work hard for every wicket with the West Indies determined to keep them out there as long as possible.
West Indies lost the wickets of Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie before the dinner break, but the lead was steadily extending.
The lead had been stretched past 200 by tea, but at the cost of three more wickets. The highlight was a sharp run out by Travis Head at short leg, who removed Kavem Hodge with a rapid flick as the batter fell out of his crease.
No West Indian batter was able to pass 500, but they combined to reach 193 and set Australia a chase of 216 when Shamar Joseph was forced to retire hurt having been struck on the toe by Mitchell Starc.
Forecast rain for the next two days could yet complicate matters, but with both teams feeling they are a realistic chance of winning the Test, the stage would otherwise be set for a thrilling conclusion.

Stumps: Australia 2-60 (Smith 33, Green 8), 156 to win
Is the game still in the balance? Or is it now a matter of time before Australia wins?
A lot relies on the fitness of Shamar Joseph for me - but that didn't look positive earlier on.
Steve Smith finally looks like his old self out there, and Cameron Green overcame his customary wobble to survive to stumps.
There is a rather ominous forecast tomorrow, but Australia will hope to have enough time to wrap this one up early on.
Thanks for being with us today - myself and Dean will be back tomorrow for what is probably the final day of the Australian men's Test summer!
Until then, goodnight.

Another wicket here would give the West Indies a huge boost.

Green fends to mid on.
18th over - Four slips for Roach
Green drives the ball to mid on, Smith took off for a single and then raced back into his ground in the nick of time. The throw was trash though to be honest.

Green defends.
Green backs away and motions that somebody, somewhere was moving. Greaves goes back and tries again.
BEATEN! Good ball, just past the outside edge of Green's bat.
BEATEN AGAIN! This is the standard Green shakey spell - out of nowhere he misses two balls outside off and is fortunate not to edge either of them. The WA all rounder needs to recover here.
BIG APPEAL! The West Indies love this! It's a touch high on first view... Oh yeah, that's very high. Ball tracking shows the ball is going over the top and it's a good decision from the umpire. The WIndies lose a challenge - they still have to remaining.
DROPPED! Did it carry? It did - dropped on 6 at second slip. Big let off for Green.
Marnus under pressure
Marnus must be under pressure to keep his spot. Last 10 tests haven’t been great
- Stephen
He's not been great.
He has had three fifties in his last 12 innings, but only one century since the last time he played against the West Indies in Adelaide last year.
That's a run of 18 Tests.
16th over - Roach carries on
Green pushes to cover point for a single.
Smith leaves outside off and, for some reason there is some interest from behind the stumps. I guess the bat was a bit close to the ball, lazily held horizontal to the ground.
Smith pulls for a single to square leg for a single.
Wow that was a tight leave, angling back in just over the stumps from Green. Very close to hitting that.
Green fends to backward point. No run.
Green leaves outside off.
That's over.
It's still in the balance, arguably
Smith's time to shine! Still guiltily rooting for the West Indies though, this is the most interesting Test of the summer so far
- Josh
15th over - Greaves is going to carry on
Smith drives straight to cover - nice shot for no reward.
This time Smith beats the fielder with a near identical shot, he picks up a couple.
This looks far more like vintage Smith to be honest - it's been a chanceless innings so far.
Smith defends high off the bat this time.
Smith ducks under a bouncer - he didn't have to duck much because that flew off the pitch and was taken high over his head by Da Silva.

Bouncer for Smith, who gets under it. It's called a wide.

Green leaves outside off.
Green is hit on the body by a rising delivery.
Green clips into the leg side for a single.
Bouncer for Smith to duck under.
Smith drives a full back straight back down the pitch but Joseph fields off his own bowling.
The big Antiguan looks exhausted as he grabs his cap and ambles listlessly to mid on. Like I said earlier, a tremendous feat of endurance from the bowler so far tonight.
11th over - Greaves has four to come
The new batter is Cameron Green.
Three slips and a gully in place, two men back on the leg side, mid on and off, point too.
Green is practicing his shots off the pitch and everyone is waiting for him to be ready.
Greaves shows his frustration by bowling a bouncer.
Green clips off his pads into the leg side and they take a couple of runs.

Green is rapped on the pads but it was going over the top and there's a minimal appeal if anything.
EDGED! TAKEN! A GREAT CATCH AT THIRD SLIP!
Marnus can't believe it!
Given the groan that went around the Gabba, I don't think the 11,184 supporters can either.
A thick edge, wonderfully taken at third slip by a diving Sinclair.
Marnus goes for 5.
Australia 2-42.
11th over - Greaves continues

How have the Aussies dealt with the heat today?
And, more importantly, is it right?
10th over - Alzarri Joseph will bowl another
Marnus, yet to get off the mark, fends into the off side.
Joseph bowled that one at 141kph - great effort in these conditions - it's still 29 degrees, feels like 35 and 83 per cent humidity out there.
The Aussie bowlers were having short spells and then going off for a rest, some ice and to sit inside in the cool for a bit after a three over spell - so this is Herculean from Joseph.
No real protection on the leg side and Marnus runs three clipping off his pads.
Smith pulls hard into the leg side - it was aerial for a long time - and gets a couple. It's a no ball too from Joseph.
Smith defends back down the pitch.
Smith sways away from a bumper nonchalantly to end the over.
9th over - Greaves continues
Greaves tells the groundstaff he wants the landing area patted down, so out they come.
In he comes and Smith leaves.
FOUR! Lovely stuff from Smith - too slow to bowl that short and Smith gets a boundary pulling through midwicket.
Good take from Da Silva, who is keeping in a wide brimmed floppy hat, dow the leg side, diving as he goes.
Outside off, left alone by Smith.
Down leg side again, Smith shoulders arms and watches the ball down the leg side.
Off the outside edge of Smith's bat to point.
8th over - Alzarri Joseph continues
Marnus is the new batter, and he's hit in the thigh.
