Australia bowler Lauren Cheatle will miss out on a Women's Premier League (WPL) debut after having a skin cancer removed from her neck.
The left-arm quick underwent a medical procedure on Wednesday. She went under the knife for a similar operation on her leg in 2021.
Cheatle had been selected by the Gujarat Giants at December's WPL auction but will now miss that tournament, as well as sitting out the remainder of the Women's National Cricket League season.
"Cheatle is aiming to return to training with NSW following the players' scheduled off-season break," Cricket NSW said in a statement.
The 25-year-old's international career was derailed by injuries — including three shoulder reconstructions — for four years before she earned a recall to the Australia side for the tour of India that began in December.
She made her Test debut in the standalone match in Mumbai on the back of impressive form for Australia A in last year's tour of England and a strong Women's Big Bash League for the Sydney Sixers.
That Test appearance was Cheatle's first game for Australia since March 2019.
