Only a star as big as Taylor Swift could get on a stage, announce she's about to share a "secret" and then have the world go wild when that "secret" is a new album.

The 66th annual Grammy Awards delivered that moment.

While accepting her 13th career Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights, Swift told the audience she had been keeping a secret for two years.

She kept her speech short and said 13 was her lucky number, before going on to say her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, would come out on April 19.

That was her secret.

She promised to post the album cover on social media and did so promptly afterwards.

Swift has been re-recording her catalogue since entertainment tycoon Scooter Braun acquired the rights to her earlier releases.

Swift will continue her Eras tour in Tokyo this week before heading to Australia next week.

When Swift later won Album of the Year for Midnights, she made history becoming the first person to win that award four times.

She had previously tied with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder (who performed at the ceremony). The treasured trio have all won the award three times each.

Chapman and Combs perform Fast Car

There were cheers from the crowd even before Tracy Chapman opened her mouth. All it took were the first few bars of a familiar tune.

In 1989 Chapman won Best Pop Performance for the song Fast Car. Fast forward to 2024 and she performed that very song at the Grammys, but she wasn't alone.

Country star Luke Combs joined the reclusive star on stage, after bringing the classic song back to the charts when he recorded a cover.
