“I don’t know if it’s an Asian thing, but they will take photos of you and tag you on social media – they’ll actually put the word out and, like, really, band together, which I think is really cool,” he says.

The location of the show also holds special significance. The Harbour City Cinema used to be a hub for the Asian Australian community, showing Chinese films until it closed its doors in the early 2000s

“It’s quite a privilege to be able to get in here. It’s been decades since events have been held here,” says Cheng. “To have the history of this space, but also to have that kind of modern injection of what we wanted to do in the area – it’s all really exciting.”
