Perth Lynx have hit the ground running in the WNBL grand final series, defeating Southside Flyers 101-79 in the opening game.
Playing at Melbourne Sports Centre, the Lynx held the upper hand throughout the contest after bursting out to a 26-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
They led 82-53 going into the fourth quarter, before holding off the Flyers, who outscored their opponents 26-19 in the final term.
Amy Atwell scored a game-high 30 points for the Lynx, while also adding four rebounds.
Teammates Anneli Maley and Aari McDonald each scored 15 points.
Opals legend Lauren Jackson, who may yet take part in the Paris Olympics after ruling out the prospect last month, led the scoring for the Flyers with 21 points.
The Lynx, who finished the regular season in fourth place, advanced to the grand final series after defeating minor premiers Townsville Fire.
The Flyers got past Melbourne Boomers to qualify for the season finale.
Game two of the grand final series will be played at Perth's Bendat Basketball Centre on Thursday evening.
Should the Flyers level the series, they will have home-court advantage in game three, which is scheduled for next Sunday if required.
