Cronulla has reclaimed the number one spot on the NRL ladder with a 42-6 thumping of the Cowboys after tempers flared as the Bulldogs hammered Newcastle 36-12.
Jack Hetherington and Reed Mahoney got into a scuffle on the field with just a few minutes left in the game, with Knights prop Hetherington and Canterbury hooker Mahoney ending the game in the sin-bin for their troubles.
It appeared referee Peter Gough sent them from the field for going on with the argument after the initial scuffle, with Mahoney overheard on the referee's microphone saying "[Hetherington] said he wants to fight me after the game".
And Fox Sports cameras captured a fiery moment as they headed to the sheds.
Hetherington appeared to jokingly square up for a fight in the tunnel, but shoved Mahoney aggressively as they went to their respective locker rooms, with officials intervening to ensure it did not escalate.
Knights coach Adam O'Brien said he had not heard anything, but Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo was asked about the incident in his post-match press conference.
"I've heard some stuff but I don't think it's too serious," he said.
"Jack's a good fella. I've known Jack for a long time, he's a good guy.
"Sometimes he gets emotional, but he's a genuinely good person, so I don't think there's too much to it."
Another weekend, another round of NRL is done and dusted.
A fair few blowouts, with all but two games decided by 16 points or more, but mostly predictable winners (other than the Dragons trouncing the Warriors).
We end the round with two teams with two wins, seven on four wins, and a chasing pack led by the Roosters and Warriors.
We're still waiting for this season to truly take shape, but I'm betting we'll have a clearer picture come Magic Round in three weeks' time.
Don't forget round eight starts early on Thursday with three Anzac Day clashes, kicking off with the Warriors and Titans in Auckland at 2pm.
We'll see you then!
Craig Fitzgibbon praises the Sharks' most complete performance of the year
Cronulla coach Craig Fitzgibbon says this was the team's most complete performance of the year, saying they executed the basics well and rode the momentum shifts well.
"I don't think we got over-emotional. We were quite clear and calm."
Fitzgibbon speaks about local junior Samuel Stonestreet, who scored a try on debut.
Apparently his favourite player growing up was Luke Covell, perhaps the slowest winger I've ever seen, and Covell sent through a video message through the week.
"He's such a good kid. Everyone was so happy for him," captain Cameron McInnes says.
"That try was great but gee he was running hard and ripping in."
Cowboys coach 'absolutely' to look into personnel changes next week
Todd Payten says he will "absolutely" be looking at making changes within the team for next week's game against the Panthers.
Payten says his Cowboys just aren't putting in repeat efforts or invested in putting in the hard work to stop their opponents' yardage.
"We're invested in the kick chase, we're good on tackles one and two, but our energy's not there [after that].
"[Good teams] don't drop off … they keep working."
Then, once the game got away from them: "Guys started to look at each other and play as individuals."
Contrary to the Raiders, who were down 28-0 at half-time in Brisbane last night and came out to win the second half 10-6, Payten can't have been thrilled with his side's effort after the break …
"I just wanted to see the fight we would show, staying connected and playing together."
Coaches' press conferences coming up
Todd Payten and Craig Fitzgibbon will be coming up soon for what should be interesting post-game analyses.
We'll bring you that once they get in the chair.
The Sharks are on top of the world
For the second straight week the Sharks have finished on top of the table, jumping over the Melbourne Storm on points difference.
Melbourne has the second-last Rabbitohs next week and the Sharks have the Raiders, so you'd think there's a chance those two could switch places again, but who really knows in a season like this?
Will Kennedy wins the Paul Green Medal
The Cronulla fullback is the third winner of the award named for the late player and coach who spent time at the Sharks and Cowboys.
Green's wife Amanda and children Jed and Emerson are at the ground to present the award.
Kennedy also gets Dene Halatau's three votes in the ABC Player of the Year, with Nicho Hynes earning two and Kayal Iro getting one.
A 'surreal' debut for local junior in front of 200 friends and family
We've caught up with debutant winger Samuel Stonestreet on the field after his first match in the NRL.
The De La Salle Caringbah junior says he "grew up watching the Sharks come last deadset every year" but was overcome with emotion when they won the 2016 grand final.
Somehow, he says he "was pretty relaxed" and "slept well" ahead of his debut, with his friends and family filling a corner at Shark Park.
He pointed straight at them as he scored his 26th-minute try.
"There's about 200 of 'em and they're going mad. They're the best, they're awesome.
"That's just my dream come true."
Chad Townsend lost for words
Cowboys halfback Chad Townsend seems baffled by the extent of that loss, saying there was just one or two areas they kept "stuffing up".
"I'm not too sure [what went wrong]. It's disappointing," he tells ABC Sport.
"I thought the effort was there, but there's a couple areas of our game where we're not putting in 80-minute games.
"We're searching for 80 minutes. We're not [getting] that at the moment."
FULL-TIME: The Sharks are back on top of the ladder with a 42-6 demolition of the Cowboys
Comprehensive from Cronulla and just horrid from the Cowboys, who are playing so far below their ceiling that I have no idea what's going on with them.
When it sticks, the Cowboys are dangerous, but they just can't string it together.
Ronaldo has his second as the Sharks hit the big 4-0!
Another straightforward shift out to the left and Ronaldo Mulitalo dives over in the corner to make it 40-0.
There was a potential obstruction in the lead-up, but Chad Townsend was nowhere near the play when he was taken out.
73' Why fight at this point?
The cross-field kick goes up and it looks like Jeremiah Nanai's knocked on, but there's a bit of a scuffle after the fact involving Ronaldo Mulitalo.
The referee sends it upstairs as a potential penalty try for a high tackle that forced him to drop the ball, but Mulitalo's contact was clean, so it remains no try.
Turns out to be a phenomenal try-saver.
70' Another opportunity goes begging
A couple of penalties and set restarts give the Cowboys good field position, but Kulikefu Finefeuiaki knocks on as he hits the line hard off a Chad Townsend short ball.
Valentine Holmes makes sure the Cowboys aren't completely blanked
There's no celebration as Valentine Holmes makes a sharp grab off Chad Townsend's grubber and scores the Cowboys' first right next to the posts in the 64th minute of the match.
58' It unravels further for the Cowboys
Sam McIntyre was in front of the play-the-ball, didn't get back, then received an offload, so he's offside.
That's an incredibly rare penalty, but if you're ever going to cop it, it'll happen when you're down 40.
Ronaldo is over and it's 36-0 to the Sharks
The Sharks score through Ronaldo Mulitalo on a left-side shift, and he runs it in under the posts.
Chad Townsend tries to sell an obstruction from the lead run of Teig Wilton, but I don't think he'll get any love from the bunker.
He doesn't and truly a shocking effort to allow Mulitalo to go over the line on the wing and run all the way around under the posts.
The Sharks continue the rout off another Drinkwater error
Scott Drinkwater loses the aerial contest with Briton Nikora and Braydon Trindall cleans up the scraps for his second try of the day.
41' The second half is underway in Cronulla
'Don't think it's too serious': Bulldogs coach not worried about reported tunnel dust-up
Jack Hetherington and Reed Mahoney appeared to reignite their on-field tussle in the tunnel on their way to the sin-bin in the Bulldogs' 36-12 win over the Knights.
The pair got into a scuffle on the field with just a few minutes left in the game, with Knights prop Hetherington and Canterbury hooker Mahoney ending the game in the sin-bin for their troubles.
"He said he wants to fight me after the game," Mahoney told the referee as he was sent.
It appeared referee Peter Gough sent them from the field for going on with the argument after the initial scuffle, and Fox Sports cameras captured a bit of carry-on as they headed to the sheds.
Hetherington appeared to jokingly square up in the tunnel, but shoved Mahoney aggressively as they went to their respective locker rooms for their early showers, with officials intervening to ensure it didn't escalate.
Knights coach Adam O'Brien said he hadn't heard anything, but Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo was asked about the incident in his post-match press conference.
"I've heard some stuff but I don't think it's too serious," he said.
"Jack's a good fella. I've known Jack for a long time, he's a good guy.
"Sometimes he gets emotional but he's a genuinely good person, so I don't think there's too much to it."
Ciraldo said Mahoney "didn't go into it too much" after the game.
HALF-TIME: Sharks all over Cowboys, leading 24-0
North Queensland can't get anything going and the Sharks are running over the top of them.
We could be in for another flogging here.
Trindall goes over for the Sharks!
The intercept starts it and Braydon Trindall finishes it off, latching on to Blayke Brailey's grubber to make it four tries in the half for Cronulla.
