Central Coast Mariners star Angel Torres remains on bail after facing court for the first time over the alleged sexual assault of a young woman in Terrigal earlier this year.

The 24-year-old, who has been temporarily suspended from playing for his A-League team, is facing five charges including two counts of common assault, one of sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated sexual assault, and intimidation.

The charges relate to the alleged sexual assault of a woman aged in her 20s in the early hours of March 24.

Mr Torres, who is a Colombian professional football player, has played for the Central Coast Mariners for less than a year and was not expected to renew his two-year contract.

Outside Gosford Court today, Mr Torres told reporters he had "nothing" to say in relation to the charges, however, he congratulated his teammates for their historic win in the AFC Cup final in Oman overnight.

"I am so happy for them," he said.

In relation to the charges he said: "You can speak with my lawyers."

Mr Torres's bail was continued in Gosford Local Court and the matter will return on July 5.

Football Australia has temporarily suspended the player while the court process is ongoing.

The Central Coast Mariners said the interim suspension was "no finding of guilt or fault".
