The next iteration of the Apple Watch, the Series 10, is likely to feature a bigger screen for the tech company's non-Ultra models, and a silicon upgrade inside. This is according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, which suggests that Apple is looking to celebrate a decade of the Apple Watch with a fresh round of improvements.
The Apple Watch originally launched in April 2015 after being announced in 2014. It has since become a ubiquitous wearable accounting for about 31% of the smartwatch market. We've been tracking all the rumors and reports about what to expect in the next Apple Watch, including a report last month that also predicted a bigger screen is coming for the device.
But it's unclear, Gurman writes, if some of the changes Apple wants to make for its next series will debut later this year on the usual launch cycle or if upgraders will have to wait until 2025. Fall could bring an Apple Watch with a larger display and a thinner overall device, but health features such as detection for blood pressure and sleep apnea may take longer, Gurman says. "Since making headway on those features last year, Apple has run into some serious snags, I'm told."
And while Apple will likely have new chips in its standard and Ultra Apple Watch devices soon, Gurman says we shouldn't expect Apple Intelligence features on Apple Watch just yet. At its WWDC event last month, the Apple Watch was not among the devices expected to get Apple Intelligence this year, but the new silicon could be prepping future versions of the wearable to incorporate AI.
Gurman says there could also be a new version of the lower-cost Apple SE device.
In addition, he reiterated that many of the Apple Intelligence upgrades Apple announced for Siri likely won't be ready in time for the launch of iOS 18 in the fall.
Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Meanwhile, this week Samsung is hosting an Unpacked event, which could bring new developments from the Galaxy maker on AI, folding phones, smartwatches and the Galaxy Ring health wearable.
